Acid Phosphatase
The Acid Phosphatase is a type of enzyme, which is secreted by the prostate gland that is present in large amounts in seminal fluid. It is therefore considered as a presumptive chemical test for confirming the presence of semen. The presumptive seminal fluid test turns purple in the presence of acid phosphatase that is one of the components of seminal fluid.
The Acid Phosphatase test is easy to conduct, lightly moisten the swab and dab the stain and then rub that swab against the paper test strips. But as the test is presumptive, it should be taken care that this test should not be mistaken for a laboratory exam for the presence of spermatozoa. However, to keep in mind, this test yields results only when used on dried stains.
